Manufacturer: Elder Pharmaceuticals.
Shelcal® active ingredients are Calcium Carbonate and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3).
What are Calcium and Vitamin D3?
Calcium Carbonate is the most common mineral in our body, important for cardiac function, muscle contraction, nervous activity, blood clotting and for supporting structural integrity of a cell.
Calcium deficiency provokes our body to take Calcium from bones, thereby weakening our bones, leading to their breakage and osteoporosis. Thus, taking Shelcal® helps to keep the bones strong.
Cholecalciferol is a fat-soluble vitamin (active form of Vitamin D). Vitamin D is produced in the body when your skin is exposed to the sun. The main function of Cholecalciferol is to promote the Calcium and Phosphorus absorption. It regulates hormone release, blood pressure and conduction of nerve impulses. Additionally, Cholecalciferol is a subconstituent of some structural proteins and steroids, and has antioxidant properties.
Shelcal® is used to treat/prevent:
- Calcium deficiency
- osteoporosis, weak bones (osteomalacia/rickets)
- decreased activity of the parathyroid gland (hypoparathyroidism)
- certain muscle disease (latent tetany)
Shelcal® is necessary for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or postmenopausal because they do not get enough Calcium. Shelcal® should be used by people who take medications like phenytoin, phenobarbital, or prednisone.
Recommended dosage of Shelcal® is 1 tablet per day orally (by mouth) with food.
For best absorption, if your total daily dose is more than 600 mg, divide your dose and space it throughout the day.
If you are uncertain about any of the information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Use Shelcal® regularly to get the most benefit from it.
